Summer Dining at Its Best – Our Visit to Brasserie Blanc ☀️

We had the pleasure of visiting Brasserie Blanc at The Hub, MK to sample the delicious new Summer Menu — and what a treat it was from start to finish!

While deciding what to choose from their huge selection of seasonal dishes, we couldn’t resist ordering some nibbles to kick things off. The Dips selection included saffron rouille, olive oil & balsamic reduction, whipped goat's curd with baguette (v), and some beautifully marinated olives. Let me tell you now — the saffron rouille needs to be bottled and sold in shops immediately! It was utterly addictive and the perfect start to our meal.

For starters, we opted for the Crab & Risotto Fishcake with stir-fried vegetables and a crab & ginger sauce, alongside the Pâté de Campagne with grain mustard mayonnaise, cornichons, watercress and a crispy garlic crouton. As someone who’s never been particularly fond of crab, I was completely converted. The delicate flavour of the crab paired with the creamy risotto was subtle and balanced, with the ginger not overpowering the dish — making it an ideal light starter (despite risotto’s usual reputation for being filling!). The pâté was, as always, beautifully smooth and rich, with the mustard mayo adding just the right amount of sharpness, and the garlic crouton offering a lovely crunch.

The pacing of the service was perfect, allowing just enough time before our mains arrived. We chose the Poulet Rôti au Citron, a roast chicken with Espelette pepper, charred corn & tomato salsa, lime & paprika mayonnaise and French fries, and the Gressingham Duck Breast served with sauce aux cerises, amarena cherries and dauphinoise potatoes, accompanied by a side of Heritage Tomato, Red Onion & Rocket Salad.

Every element of these dishes was exceptional, but if I had to pick a favourite — and it’s tough — it would be the Duck Breast with cherry sauce. Having only experienced duck on pancakes with hoisin or in the classic orange jus before, I can confidently say this is by far the best duck dish I’ve ever tasted. The sweetness of the cherries with the perfectly cooked duck was a total game-changer, and the dauphinoise potatoes alongside fresh green beans and carrots made it a truly satisfying plate of food. The chicken was equally impressive — tender, succulent, and full of flavour, with the zing of the salsa and the creamy paprika mayo adding the perfect finishing touches.

Of course, we found room for dessert (it would’ve been rude not to!), trying two of the new summer additions: the Coconut Sticky Rice (ve) with mango & passion fruit salad, mango sorbet and coconut tuile, and the Chocolate & Amarena Cherry Torte (v) with sour cherry compote and Kirsch Chantilly cream. I’ll be honest — I’m not usually a coconut fan, but this dessert totally won me over. The tropical flavours of mango and passion fruit with the creamy, fragrant rice and refreshing sorbet made it the ideal light, summery dessert. The Chocolate & Cherry Torte was rich and indulgent, perfectly offset by the cherries and a generous dollop of Kirsch cream. And hey — with all that fruit, surely it cancels out the calories… right?

The atmosphere at Brasserie Blanc is exactly what you want for a relaxed meal — lively but not loud, with just the gentle hum of conversation and clinking glasses. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with elegant, modern touches, and feels just as inviting for daytime dining as it does for an evening meal.

Brasserie Blanc isn’t just about fantastic food — they are also committed to quality, seasonality and sustainability. Their menus celebrate fresh, responsibly sourced ingredients, working with suppliers who share their values around reducing waste, supporting ethical farming and championing local produce wherever possible. This dedication to doing things properly shines through in every dish.

If you fancy a visit, they also offer a Weekday Prix Fixe Menu, available Monday to Friday from 12pm–5pm, with a selection of seasonal dishes for £19.50 for two courses, or three for an additional £6. It’s a brilliant option if you’re looking for great value without compromising on quality. After 5pm, you can enjoy their full Summer Menu — but I’d always recommend checking ahead if there’s a particular dish you’ve set your heart on.

The staff deserve a special mention too — friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about the food and your experience. Nothing is ever too much trouble, and their recommendations come from the heart, not a script.
