Do you have a favourite piece of clothing that holds a special memory? A jacket with a story behind it? A dress that’s travelled through life with you?

From 14th to 17th July, residents of Milton Keynes are invited to take part in a series of creative workshops at Unity Place, delving into the rich and personal stories hidden in our wardrobes.

As part of the IF: Milton Keynes International Festival, Who’s in Your Wardrobe? offers an inspiring, playful space to reflect on what we wear – and why it matters.

Led by visiting Dutch artists from the acclaimed Zwermers collective, these free workshops run from 5pm–9pm in the Community Hall. Across four evenings, participants will take part in relaxed and imaginative activities designed to spark memories, explore identity, and celebrate self-expression through clothing – no performance or modelling experience required.

The project culminates on Saturday 19th July with two joyful performances in Unity Place’s Station Side Foyer (at 12.45pm and 3.30pm), where participants will have the opportunity to share their stories in their own unique way.

Everyone is welcome, especially those who:

  • Love storytelling, fashion, or creative expression
  • Are keen to meet new people and be part of a shared experience
  • Are open to trying something different
  • Have ever opened a wardrobe and smiled at the memories inside

Whether you join the workshops, the performance, or both – your presence and your story are what truly matter.

Places are free but limited, so don’t miss out. To register or find out more, email takepart@stables.org for a friendly chat.

Got a question?

Do I need to attend every workshop?
Ideally, yes – attending all four sessions is best. If that’s not possible, please try to attend the first and last evenings.

Will there be food or drink available?
There will be a break each evening. You’re welcome to bring food from home or pick something up from one of Unity Place’s outlets. A kitchen is available in the space if needed.

Do I need to bring any clothes with me?
No – everything will be provided. Just bring yourself.

What should I wear?
Whatever makes you feel comfortable.
