This latest production has been boldly refreshed for the 21st century, with more high-energy dance routines than you can shake a stick at, but still holds onto the heart, humour, and musical magic that’s made it a beloved classic for decades.

A Classic Tale Reimagined

At its core, Joseph is the biblical story of Joseph and his 11 jealous brothers, as told through a kaleidoscope of musical genres, comedic storytelling, and heartfelt emotion. From betrayal to redemption, it’s a tale that still resonates — but it’s the creative team behind it that makes this version truly shine.

With lyrics by Sir Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, this is one of the duo’s earliest and most enduring works. Director Laurence Connor has brought it roaring into the modern era, finding new rhythms, visuals, and comic beats to entertain audiences of all ages while respecting the essence of the original show.

Colourful, Creative and Unforgettable Design

The staging, costumes, and lighting are nothing short of spectacular. From the moment the curtain rises, you’re immersed in a visual feast. The technicolor dreamcoat itself glistens under dynamic lighting design, while each scene is layered with rich detail and bold costuming that draws from every corner of the musical spectrum — from cowboy chic to calypso cool. It’s playful, punchy, and utterly dazzling throughout.

Stellar Performances That Raise the Roof

Christina Bianco stars as the Narrator and is a powerhouse presence from start to finish. Her incredible vocal range, comic timing, and charisma keep the show flowing seamlessly. She effortlessly turns her hand to everything — from heartfelt narration to energetic musical numbers — and her voice is nothing short of sensational.

Adam Filipe delivers a breathtaking performance as Joseph. His vocals are stunning, particularly during “Close Every Door,” which was a real spine-tingler and one of the emotional high points of the night. He brings sensitivity, charm, and strength to the role — a truly commanding performance.

And of course, Joe McElderry as Pharaoh was a show-stealing highlight. His Act Two entrance brought a hilarious, sassy Elvis-inspired flair to ancient Egypt, and his charisma had the audience in stitches.

The supporting cast were equally brilliant, working together with tight choreography, high energy, and pure joy. The ensemble of children added extra sparkle — every single one of them was a star in the making, bringing cuteness and confidence in equal measure.

Iconic Songs That Stick With You

If you’ve seen Joseph before, you’ll know the songs like the back of your hand — and if it’s your first time, you won’t forget them. From the opening number “Any Dream Will Do” to the iconic “Go, Go, Go Joseph” and the unforgettable “Song of the King,” the score is a rollercoaster of musical styles and infectious energy. Ending with the beautiful "Any Dream Will Do"!

And just when you think it’s all over, the rousing “Joseph Megamix” at the end lets everyone cut loose. You can’t help but clap, dance, and sing along — and the audience certainly did!

Final Thoughts

Were there moments that didn’t quite land for me? Yes — a couple of comedic choices or transitions that felt slightly off-pace — but honestly, the sheer joy, colour, and musical brilliance of this show far outweighed any minor quibbles. This is a production bursting with heart, humour, and theatre magic.

If you’ve never seen Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat before — or even if it’s been years — now is your chance to experience it in full technicolor glory while it’s here in Milton Keynes. Don’t miss it! Book Now!
