This autumn, renowned Canadian circus company Cirque Éloize makes a long-awaited return to the UK for the first time since 2019, premiering its brand-new production iD Reloaded. Directed and created by co-founder Jeannot Painchaud, this exhilarating new show combines high-energy circus with cutting-edge urban dance styles including breakdance, hip hop, and b-boying/b-girling.
Set in a bustling city-scape – a communal space where individuals find connection and identity – the production blends the futuristic with the timeless. Against a backdrop of vivid video projections, 12 exceptional performers deliver jaw-dropping physical feats with relentless energy. The experience is amplified by a powerful, bass-heavy soundtrack from Jean-Phi Goncalves (aka Beast) and Alex McMahon, making iD Reloaded a bold and electrifying spectacle.
In 2013, Cirque Éloize captivated West End audiences with their hit show iD, which later toured internationally to rave reviews. iD Reloaded draws inspiration from that original production while reimagining it for a new generation.
Speaking about the show, Jeannot Painchaud explains:
"The first version of iD explored identity within a community. Since then, dance and acrobatic arts have evolved tremendously. iD Reloaded is a visual feast – still fun and energetic, but with a more cartoon-like, colourful edge. It reflects the complexities of teen identity in a world shaped by social media and shifting digital personas. In such extraordinary times, it’s more vital than ever to celebrate what makes us unique and the power of community."
Cirque Éloize has been a creative force in Quebec’s cultural scene for 30 years. Originating in the Magdalen Islands in the early '90s, the company was founded by Painchaud and seven fellow artists with a vision to break away from traditional circus norms. Their innovative spirit helped redefine modern circus, including the invention of the Cyr wheel by co-founder Daniel Cyr.
iD Reloaded will tour eight venues across the UK, presented by Dance Consortium – a collective of 22 major UK and Irish theatres committed to bringing the best of international contemporary dance to local audiences.
Joe Bates, Chief Executive of Dance Consortium, says:
"Cirque Éloize is an extraordinary company and a true pioneer in the world of contemporary circus. We’re thrilled to present the world premiere of iD Reloaded and can’t wait for UK audiences to experience its explosive creativity first-hand. It’s a show not to be missed!"
