WAITRESS is based on the 2007 movie written by Adrienne Shelly, with music and lyrics by GRAMMY Award-winning singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles. Featuring a book by Jessie Nelson, direction by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus and choreography by Lorin Latarro, the musical has received multiple award nominations and widespread acclaim from audiences and critics on both sides of the Atlantic.

Celebrating 10 years since its original production, WAITRESS opened on Broadway on 24 April 2016 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, where it ran until 5 January 2020. The show celebrated its official West End opening night at London’s Adelphi Theatre on 7 March 2019 and has since enjoyed international success with productions across North America, Japan, Holland, Canada, Mexico, and — in spring 2026 — Australia, with runs planned in Melbourne and Sydney.

WAITRESS tells the story of Jenna, an expert pie maker in a small town who dreams of escaping her loveless marriage. When a baking contest in a nearby county and the town’s new doctor offer the possibility of a fresh start, Jenna begins to imagine a different future. Supported by her fellow waitresses and their own recipes for happiness, she must find the courage to rebuild her life. This uplifting musical celebrates friendship, motherhood and the magic of a perfectly baked pie.
