Walk for UnityMK invites residents, families, and groups to come together to raise vital funds and awareness for people in Milton Keynes who are facing or experiencing homelessness.
The walk begins at UnityMK’s Homelessness Centre at The Old Bus Station, with participants following an interactive digital map that shares powerful real-life stories from those who have experienced homelessness in the city. The map will remain live from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th October, allowing people the flexibility to complete either the full 10km or a shorter distance at their own pace across the weekend.
The official celebration takes place on Friday 10th October, when finishers will be welcomed into Unity Place’s Urban Food Market to collect certificates, enjoy refreshments, and hear more about the impact of UnityMK’s work. Those completing the walk independently over the weekend are warmly encouraged to do so and continue fundraising, but the Unity Place celebration will be exclusive to Friday participants.
Registration is £25 per adult, with under 18's able to join free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Every entry helps provide emergency shelter and long-term support for those at risk of or experiencing homelessness in Milton Keynes. Participants are also encouraged to increase their impact by fundraising through sponsorship.
“Unity Place exists to bring people together, and we are proud to be the final stop for this powerful event,” said Adam Holbrook, Head of Placemaking at Unity Place. “Walk for UnityMK is about solidarity as much as fundraising, and we hope to see many people join us on World Homeless Day in supporting UnityMK’s vision of a city where everyone has a place to call home.”
UnityMK, the charity behind the event, provides safe accommodation and year-round support for people experiencing homelessness. Ria House, Corporate and Community Fundraising Manager at UnityMK, said:
“We are deeply grateful to Unity Place for their continued support as neighbours and partners in our shared mission to create positive change for Milton Keynes’ homeless community.
Walk for UnityMK is about more than just taking steps around Milton Keynes, it’s about taking steps towards change. Every person who registers, every donation, every conversation sparked by this event helps us get closer to ending homelessness in our city.”
Every day, an average of 42 people visit the UnityMK Homelessness Centre to access support services, with the welfare team welcoming two new guests who are either newly homeless or new to the service each day it is open. These figures highlight the urgent and growing need for support within the community.
