The atmosphere was electric as families and friends gathered to celebrate the start of the Christmas season. The event, which traditionally takes place outside of Midsummer Place has become so popular it was decided to relocate it this year to the Milton Keynes Development Partnership car park beside The Point.

The entertainment began mid-afternoon with a trio of stilt walking elves entertaining the early arrival’s, supported by a giant crocodile from MK Theatre’s Peter Pan pantomime and funfair rides bought to us by Keith Emmett and Sons.

The switch-on event kicked off at 4pm with superb performances from St Bernadettes school choir and the Milton Keynes Rock choir.

MK Theatre Pantomime star and ventriloquist Max Fulham entertained the crowds with his fellow Peter Pan performer, Gordon the Monkey.

The event culminated with a performance by Milton Keynes’ very own Mike Woodhams, a local teacher and Britain’s Got Talent finalist who captured the heart of judges with his remarkable singing impressions.

Mike was joined by Father Christmas for the switching-on of the City Centre’s festive lights, accompanied by a dazzling fireworks display.

The crowd erupted in cheers as thousands of twinkling lights illuminated the city, marking the beginning of the festive season in Milton Keynes.

“It was an absolutely fantastic night!” said Jill Farnsworth, CEO of MyMK, (the organisation that hosted the switch-on), “We were thrilled to see so many people come together to celebrate, and the atmosphere was just incredible. Moving the event to The Point really allowed us to create a more spacious and festive environment for families and visitors to enjoy."

As the evening continued, the streets of MK City Centre lit up with a festive glow, and many attendees lingered to explore the city’s shopping district, taking in the sparkling decorations and festive atmosphere.

For those who missed the switch-on, don’t worry - Milton Keynes' Christmas festivities are just getting started. The lights will remain on throughout the season, and there will be plenty of other events and activities to enjoy, including Christmas markets, this year’s Panto, Peter Pan at MK Theatre and don't forget to visit the most important man of all, Father Christmas at centre:mk, and so much more.
