MISCHIEF, the multi-award-winning company behind the global hit The Play That Goes Wrong, has announced the full dates for its first-ever UK tour of THE COMEDY ABOUT SPIES.
The production, which won the 2026 WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Play and received an Olivier Award nomination for Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play, follows two successful West End seasons and will visit
Milton Keynes Theatre from Tuesday 24 to Saturday 28 August 2027.
First performed at London's Noël Coward Theatre in April 2025, the show enjoyed a limited run until September before returning for an eight-week season at the Adelphi Theatre from 1 August to 26 September 2026.
Set in the swinging 1960s, this hilarious spy caper begins when a rogue British agent steals the plans for a top-secret weapon. Soon, CIA and KGB spies are hot on the trail of the missing file, all converging on London's Piccadilly Hotel.
But things quickly become complicated with the arrival of a clueless young couple, an ambitious but hopeless actor desperate to land a role in a spy film, and a whole host of double agents. What follows is a mission packed with mistaken identities, botched operations and catastrophic miscommunication.
Written by original MISCHIEF members Henry Lewis and Henry Shields, and directed by Matt DiCarlo, the production features set design by David Farley, costume design by Deborah Andrews, movement direction by Shelley Maxwell, lighting design by Johanna Town and sound design and composition by Jon Fiber for Jollygoodtunes. Casting is by Lucy Jenkins and Sooki McShane for Jenkins McShane Casting CDG, with Jonathan Sayer as Executive Producer. The production is presented by Kenny Wax and Stage Presence in association with Jo Danvers. Casting is yet to be announced.
Henry Lewis says “We are so excited for THE COMEDY ABOUT SPIES to head out on tour and entertain audiences up and down the UK. We’re always looking to add new venues, so if you have a large front room please do get in touch.”
With more than 12 years of entertaining audiences worldwide, MISCHIEF continues to go from strength to strength. Its Olivier and Tony Award-winning hit The Play That Goes Wrong is currently celebrating its 12th year at London's Duchess Theatre, making it the fourth longest-running play and 20th longest-running show in West End history.
Meanwhile, Christmas Carol Goes Wrong has returned to tour and will be back in the West End this Christmas, following a sell-out run last year. The production will visit 12 cities alongside a six-week London season at Wyndham's Theatre. It will also make its North American premiere at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles from 12 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, reuniting the original cast.
