“Since we first announced this new production, I have been genuinely delighted at the enthusiasm of the public determined not to miss SAIGON, with tickets flying out of the Box Office and several of the announced cities already nearly sold out. We have now completed our search for a really fantastic cast, full of exciting discoveries, that will bring Boublil and Schönberg’s extraordinary, powerful musical back to thrilling life. I can’t wait to see MISS SAIGON reborn again.”
— Cameron Mackintosh
MISS SAIGON features music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, with lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. and Alain Boublil, adapted from the original French text by Boublil. Additional lyrics are by Michael Mahler, with orchestrations by William David Brohn.
The production is directed by Jean-Pierre van der Spuy, whose recent work includes Oliver! at the Gielgud Theatre and Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular. Co-choreographers Chrissie Cartwright (Cats, The Phantom of the Opera) and Carrie-Anne Ingrouille (SIX The Musical) bring bold movement to the stage. The creative team also includes Andrew D. Edwards (Set & Costume Design), Bruno Poet (Lighting Design), Adam Fisher (Sound Design), George Reeve (Video Design), Graham Hurman (Musical Supervisor), Sarah Leung CDG (Casting Director), Maria Graciano (Resident Director), and Jasmin Colangelo (Resident Choreographer). The production is overseen by Cameron Mackintosh.
Set during the final days of the Vietnam War, MISS SAIGON tells the heart-wrenching story of Kim, a 17-year-old girl forced to work in a Saigon bar, where she meets and falls in love with American GI Chris. Torn apart by the fall of Saigon, Kim sets off on an extraordinary journey of survival and sacrifice in her search for Chris—who doesn’t know he’s fathered a son.
Since its West End premiere in 1989, Cameron Mackintosh’s original production of MISS SAIGON has become one of the most successful musicals in history. The Broadway production opened in 1991 and ran for nearly a decade, with over 4,000 performances and more than 6.3 million attendees. The show returned to London in 2014, followed by a UK tour in 2017, and celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special gala performance featuring the original cast—including Jonathan Pryce and Lea Salonga—which was filmed and continues to be shown internationally.
The musical’s powerful score features iconic songs such as The Heat is On in Saigon, The Movie in My Mind, Last Night of the World, and The American Dream. As of September 2024, MISS SAIGON celebrates 35 years since its West End debut.
To date, MISS SAIGON has been performed in 33 countries, 378 cities, and 15 languages, winning 75 major awards including 2 Olivier Awards, 3 Tony Awards, and 4 Drama Desk Awards, and has been seen by over 38 million people worldwide.
