Following a successful debut that attracted over 7,000 visitors last year, the Midsummer Festival returns with even more to explore — this time inspired by themes of fantasy, folklore and fairytales. Giant, mischievous puppets will roam the site, spellbinding stories will be shared, and there’ll be a wide range of hands-on activities in the Festival Pavilions.
From morning into the evening — come rain or shine — the site will be alive with memorable experiences, including:
- The Orbitza – A twilight spectacular where giant totem puppets and a glowing labyrinth create a sanctuary for reflection, play and wonder.
- 100 Miles of String – An epic interactive art project by Leap Then Look, inviting everyone to weave beams of colour and light across the boulevard.
- Hip-Hop Ceilidh Jam – A high-energy blend of folk dance and street styles — fast-paced, joyful, and not to be missed.
- Dancing ‘Hearthfolk’ – Mischievous puppets bring fun, fortune and festive cheer, while the Midsummer Machine celebrates the solar system’s magic.
- The Faerie Ball and Barn Owl Journey – Step inside the performance yurt for storytelling and mystical encounters.
- The Wandering Oracles – Roaming fortune-telling machines draw visitors into a playful world of riddles and folklore.
- The Pavilion of the Hopeful Sun – Swap a memory for a seed and take part in the whimsical Ceremony of the Seed, honouring nature and new beginnings.
- Midsummer Music Tent – Relax with local folk favourites and mellow sunset sets curated by Dry Wood and SLQY.
- Food and Drink – A deliciously expanded feast curated by Sophie Etc., offering something for everyone to enjoy.
Midsummer Boulevard East will be closed to traffic for the duration of the event. Diversions and alternative bus stop locations will be clearly signposted, with full details published closer to the date.
“We’re delighted to bring the FREE Midsummer Festival back after the huge success of its first year. This exciting programme will bring families and communities together to celebrate in a fun and magical atmosphere. I strongly encourage everyone to come along and be part of it.”
