Discover the Future at the Smart City Experience Centre in Milton Keynes

The Smart City Experience Centre allows customers to experience and interact with robots and digital technologies, including the self-driving buses soon to be operating in the City Centre

The UK’s first Smart City Experience Centre opened on 1 November in centre:mk. The centre is a joint initiative between private sector partners and the City Council, serving as a shop window for customers to experience and interact with robots and digital technologies.

Located on Crown Walk, the Smart City Experience Centre showcases a variety of robots and AI-powered applications, all tailored to show how these technologies can enhance everyday life rather than compete with it. The goal? To reduce fear of the unknown and help more people feel confident about using these tools in their daily routines.

One of the highlights of the Centre is the chance to see the award-winning Ohmio driverless vehicle, which recently took home the prestigious "Driverless Vehicle of the Year 2024" award. This cutting-edge autonomous shuttle will soon be making its mark in Milton Keynes, operating a route between the Station and the shopping centre starting in early 2025. Visitors can get a sneak peek at this revolutionary vehicle and learn how it’s set to transform local transportation.

Building on Milton Keynes’ reputation for hosting international robotics competitions and innovative robot trails, this initiative aims to establish the city as the UK’s top destination for testing and perfecting new technologies in real-world settings. By doing so, it addresses one of the biggest challenges in fields like healthcare and transport—making tech adoption smoother and more sustainable.

Ready to see what the future holds? Visit the Smart City Experience Centre and step into a world where technology meets possibility.
