The refresh comes after the previous children’s section closed in mid-July, allowing staff to relocate and enhance the space for reopening on 23 July.
This move is part of a larger overhaul aimed at transforming the library into a more welcoming, community-focused resource. The upgrades include accessible layouts for parents with buggies, improved event zones for activities, and infrastructure improvements such as a new roof and renewed lifts—ensuring the library meets the needs of all visitors.
Milton Keynes Libraries announced the reopening via social channels last week, celebrating the refreshed space as “scrumdiddlyumptious”—a bright, modern area stocked with new books, comfy seating and planned storytimes, coding clubs, and family events. This makes Central Library’s ground floor an exciting hub for learning and play this summer.
With its upgraded layout, accessible entrances, and enhanced children's offerings, the newly relocated department reinforces Central Library’s role as a key destination for families in Milton Keynes—as well as a forward-thinking public hub for the whole community.
