Join Amber Elizabeth, John Lewis' guest expert from The Sewist & Co.
Close-up of a hand with golden bracelets cutting light fabric with orange scissors.

The focus for this workshop is using sewing patterns when cutting fabric.

This includes understanding the grain line principle, a refresh of commercial sewing pattern essentials and basic fabric considerations.

This will include:

  • Cutting Talk - basic refresh of important elements of the fabric grainline principle
  • What is the grain line?
  • The cross grain – pros and cons
  • The bias grain – pros and cons
  • Notches – 2 transfer methods - how to, pros and cons
  • Dots – how to transfer – e.g. single point and double-point darts
  • Pleats – broken and solid lines
  • Seam allowances and hem annotations not always in the instructions

After the event, Amber will be on-hand to answer any questions and help you pick the right pattern for your project.

Tickets are £10, redeemable on any Haberdashery purchase on the day.
